Standard R129 i-Size: choose the seat by height
The regulation R129, known as i-Size, classifies seats according to the child's height in centimetres. It requires rear-facing travel until at least 15 months and adds a side-impact test, which was not part of the previous standard.
Standard R44/04: choose the seat by weight
Older, the R44/04 standard groups seats by weight: group 0+ up to 13 kg, group 1 from 9 to 18 kg, groups 2 and 3 from 15 to 36 kg. Both standards still coexist on the Moroccan market; the seat's orange label indicates which one applies. In the European Union, R44 seats have not been sold since 1st September 2024, but those already purchased remain usable: at the same budget, an R129 seat is the more durable choice.
Rear-facing: the most protective position
In a frontal impact, the rear-facing position spreads the energy across the whole surface of the backrest and relieves the neck, whose muscles remain immature in young children. Extending rear-facing beyond the minimum regulatory period is recommended as long as the seat's size allows it.
Isofix or seatbelt: two ways to secure the seat
The Isofix system anchors the seat directly to the vehicle's metal points, with a visual locking indicator that greatly reduces the risk of installation error. Securing with a three-point seatbelt remains possible in vehicles without Isofix, provided the indicated routing is followed carefully.
